At recent shows, #parisbuttertartfestival#midlandbuttertartfestival, and the #stratfordmakersmarket, we’ve been serving our Cranberry Switchel as a Mossmo (our take on a Cosmo mocktail).

Here is the recipe for the Orange Syrup we made for the drink:

Homemade Orange Syrup
Prep: 5 mins
Cook: 5 mins
Total: 10 mins
Yield: 1 1/3 cups

Ingredients
8 oz. (1 cup) water, filtered or distilled
8 oz. granulated sugar, about 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons
3 oranges, peel only, as little pith as possible

Method
1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and orange peels. Stir to combine.
2. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove from heat, strain out the peels, and let the syrup cool.
4. Transfer to a bottle or jar and cover it. Refrigerate.

The Mossmo
8 oz Cranberry Maple Switchel, frozen in small cubes
2 oz orange syrup (scan QR code for recipe)
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 ounce (a splash) unflavored sparkling water
Garnish – Orange or lime twist!

1. Fill shaker with switchel cubes.
2. Pour in the orange syrup and lime juice and shake well to melt the cubes.
3. Taste and adjust syrup and lime juice amount to your liking.
4. Top with a splash of sparkling water.
5. Pour into your glass and garnish.
